Walter Wilkinson

November 13, 1926 — February 1, 2010

Walter D. Wilkinson, 83, set sail on his final voyage Feb. 1, 2010. He was born on Nov. 13, 1926 in Rosenberg, TX to John Robert and Annie May (Killebrew) Wilkinson. He served 24 years in the Navy. He served abroad many destroyers in WWII, the Korean War and throughout his career. He was also an instructor at Gunnery School and retired GMGC in 1967; upon retirement, he worked and retired from N.S.S.D. in 1989. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Kathleen (Dzieglewicz) Wilkinson, who he married 47 years ago in Waukegan; his daughter, Margie Zucco of Waukegan; son, Robert (Bretta) Wilkinson of Morton, IL; grandchildren, Shannon Miller of Waukegan, Melissa Miller and Jessica Zucco both of Zion, Rigley, Brooks and Bayler Wilkinson of Morton, IL and his pride and joy, great granddaughter, Cali Burdick of Zion, great grandson (due in May) and many numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Michael Wilkinson in 1999, two brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 from 4-8 pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Funeral services will take place on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at 10 am at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Helia Health Care of Zion to every single person on their staff, "And we mean everyone." Also, to a special niece, Donna Frazier of Baton Rouge, LA, our special friends and neighbors, Trish and Julian Rodriguez and our friend, Johnny Hernandez.
