Walter Lee Hood

Walter Lee Hood, 82 passed away on December 27, 2022 at Highland Park Hospital.

He was a longtime resident on North Chicago, IL. Walter was born on September 10, 1940 in Munford, Tennessee to the late James and Mary (Weaver) Hood.

Walter attended Ellis Jr High located in Munford Tennessee until he enters the workforce to help support the family.

 On April 26,1960 he Married the love of his life, Jean H. Ross.  From this union they had four children Jerline, James, Cleaster and Anthony.

Walter and his family relocated to North Chicago in 1965.

He was employed as a Union Carpenter before he changed careers and was employed as a Maintenance Worker for the Lake County Court House for 26 years.  He also took up the trade as a painter and was very skillful at it.

Walter enjoyed gardening, barbequing, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Sye Davis Masonic Lodge #1. He kept up with the local news by faithfully reading the Waukegan News Sun daily. Walter enjoyed talking, laughing and joking with family and friends.

Walter gave his life to Christ and was baptized under the ministry of Pastor Henry Woods at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church.  He Was a faithful member until his health began to fail.

Walter leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 62 years Jean Hood, one daughter Jerline  Hood of San Diego, CA, two Sons Cleaster (Sheila) Hood of Racine, WI, and Anthony (Janice) Hood of North Chicago, IL , seven   grandchildren,  three great grandchildren, four sisters Ida Nabors of North Chicago, IL, Clara Jean Bonner of Ohio, Kathyron Chearis of Covington, TN,  and Regina Holmes of Memphis, TN, three brothers James Edward Hood of Henning, TN, Charles Hood of  Memphis , TN and John (Joyce) Hood of Memphis, TN.

Walter is proceeded in death by his father James Hood Sr, His mother Mary (Weaver) Hood, one son James Hood, two brothers Maurice Hood, and Vonzell Flemings, one sister Delores Pete and several brother and sister in laws.

Visitation will be Saturday January 7, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 2690 Argonne Drive, North Chicago, Illinois 60064, with Officiator Pastor Anthony Morgan Sr. Entombment will immediately follow at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Warren Cemetery 1495 N. Cemetery Rd. (located on the northside of the intersection of Tri-State Parkway and Cemetery Rd.) in Gurnee, Illinois.
