Tonya Schick

Tonya Faye Schick, 75 or Gurnee, passed away on May 29, 2023. She was born on March 20, 1948 in Charleston, Mississippi to Sanford and Johnnie Staten. On September 19, 1970 she married the love of her life, David L. Schick. 

Throughout her life, Tonya loved spending time with friends and most especially her family and grandchildren. She loved animals of all kinds, butterflies, and especially her dog Lacey who would follow her around everywhere. She was a beautiful singer and in her younger years sang in a traveling choir where she met David. She worked as a church secretary and also at the Zion Assessors office assisting seniors. 

She was unapologetically a Christ follower. She loved the Lord and shared His love with others. She was a friend to all who knew her and everyone she met. She was always positive, smiling and only saw the best in people. She was warm, kind, selfless, caring, happy, and a peacemaker. She was the ultimate example of God’s love and compassion. She spent many hours on phone calls ministering to others with her companionship and empathy. 

Tonya is survived by her son Scott (Vicki), her brother Tim (Patty) Staten and her grandchildren; Ashley, Gavin, Kaitlyn, Emily and Keegan Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Schick, and her parents Sanford and Johnnie Staten. 

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 3 at Lakeland Church beginning at 3:30 PM with the funeral service following at 5:00 PM at Lakeland Church 440 Hunt Club Rd. Gurnee, IL.
