Tomasa (Tommie) Esparza Sanchez went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family. Tomasa was born in Shaw, MS on December 21, 1935. She met and married her husband of 61 years Tomas Sanchez in Houston, TX in 1955. They relocated to Illinois and have been residents of Gurnee for 54 years.
Tomasa leaves behind children Jimmy (DeAnne) Sanchez, Juanita Sanchez, Rosalie Johnson, Debra (Rich) Golden, Daniel (Laura) Sanchez, Robert (Kim) Sanchez, Paul (Sherry) Sanchez, Grandchildren Tony (Kelly) Sanchez, Joseph (Jenna) Sanchez, Daniel Sanchez, Christina (Celso) Aranda, Alicia Delgado, Teresa (Josh) Posada, Rosemarie Delgado, Ryne Sanchez, Michelle (Luis) Cervantes, Cadie Sanchez, Emily (Mike) VanCamp, Daniel Sanchez, Jenny (Colin) Sanchez, Thomas Sanchez, Nicole (Ethan) Sanchez, Sidney Rose, Alex Rose, Tyler Sanchez, Isabel Sanchez, Julia Sanchez, Jenna Sanchez, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Tomasa is survived by half-brother Felipe Esparza, stepbrother Raymond Ruiz, and half-sister Ruby (Beto) Garcia. Tomasa is proceeded in death by her eldest son Tony Sanchez this past December, her parents Leon & Fidencia Esparza (Luna), sister Mary Farias and brother Fidencio Esparza, half-brothers Julio Esparza, Leon Esparza, and Domingo Esparza, stepsisters Mary Gonzalez and Lupe Mireles. Daughter-in-law Jane Sanchez and caregivers Amelia Farias, Mary Deleon and Sudie Gordon hold a special place in Tomasa's heart.
Tomasa retired from St. Theresa Hospital as a Nursing Assistant after 30-years of service. She loved to care for the new mothers and newborns in the maternity ward. She was often a translator for the Spanish families. Tomasa was a Cubs fan and enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren play their sports.
Tomasa was a devoted wife, loving and very protective mother and grandmother. Tomasa is a member of St. Patrick's Church in Wadsworth, IL.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday March 23, 2017 at Warren Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1475 North Cemetery Road, Gurnee from 5-9pm and Friday at the Church of St. Patrick, 15000 Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am with Fr. James E Merold officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL.
