Scott Mathis, 54, Zion, IL, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, in Chicago, IL.
He was born on August 14, 1967, in Waukegan to Duane Mathis and Mary Johnson (nee Gibbs).
Throughout his life Scott enjoyed many activities including playing darts, bowling at Castle Lanes in Racine and Grand Bowl in Waukegan and running cribbage tournaments at Jesters on Mondays and the Zion-Benton Moose Lodge on Thursdays, where he was a long-time member-in-good-standing for many years.
In addition to a passion for couponing and helping friends to learn how to save money doing so, Scott was an avid fan of Elvis Presley. He would hunt down Elvis memorabilia at flea markets like Maxwell Street Days in Mukwonago, WI.
Scott is survived by his fiancé, Teresa Nelson; mother, Mary Johnson and her partner Andy Bentivegna; brother, Kenneth Mathis and his partner Lynn Tester; nephew Jacob Mathis; best friend, Jeffrey Roark; family-friend dog, Max; as well as many, many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Duane and Nancy Mathis; his wife, Laura, in 2007; and his grandparents, Wayne and Vivian Mathis, and Woodrow and Josie Colp.
Scott possessed a heart of gold, he was a man who would give his love and help wherever it was needed, and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 10-11 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL. Inurnment will be at a later date.
