Ruth Ekholm

Ruth Marion (nee Hammer) Ekholm, 89, of Gurnee passed away on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. She was born on December 29, 1921 in Chicago. On January 25, 1947, Ruth married Guy K. Ekholm in Chicago.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Karen (James) Belli of Wadsworth, Janis Hessefort of Marshfield, WI; grandchildren, Sabrina and Bianca Belli, Erik and Katie Hessefort; great grandchildren, Matthew and Nadia Hessefort. She was preceded in death by Guy, her husband of 60 years, twin sister, Ellen Titel and son-in-law, William Hessefort.
Ruth served in the United States Navy as a WAVE for four years during WWII. She graduated with an MBA from Northwestern University. Ruth taught and counseled at Lake View High School and later at Mather High School both in Chicago.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 10:00 am at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL. The private interment will be held at Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee, IL at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hadley School for the Blind, 700 Elm St., Winnetka, IL 60093.
