Rosie Owens, 104, of Waukegan went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Mama Rosie was born on August 24, 1911 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to William and Arena (Davis) Madison. Rosie was married to the late James Owens Sr. She leaves to cherish her loving memory; one son, Earl (Denise) Owens of California; three daughters, Earl Lene Owens, Ardie Jean (David) Williams of Illinois and Vehester Galbreath of Texas; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Rosie loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She retired at the age of 85 from Domestic work. She cared for her family and friends during their time of need. She enjoyed walking and gardening. Rosie was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Osceola, Arkansas, and later moved to Waukegan in 1962 where she became a member at Antioch Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Head of the building fund committee, missions department, and on the Mother's board until her death. Rosie trusted in the Lord and was obedient to his word. She was a true believer in "walking in faith, not by sight". During her lifetime, Rosie was honored with Multiple Awards, recently honored for demonstrating godly wisdom and grace. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Owens, Jr.; two daughters, Norma Jean Owens and Dorothy Mae O'Neal; two grandsons, Quincy Galbreath and LaTray Owens; four brothers, William Madison, Jr., Walter L. Madison, J.D. Madison and Henry Madison; two sisters, Edna Henderson and Alma Sanders. A Celebration of her Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee St., Waukegan, IL with Rev. Dr. A. C. Conley, Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Warren Cemetery, Chapel of Peace Mausoleum Gurnee, IL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M.
