Rosa Mirta Reyes, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2025, in her beloved home country of Guatemala.
Rosa, 82, was born on November 9, 1942, in Guatemala to the late Antonio Chacon and Justina Suchite. She married Horacio Reyes (Horace Kings) on August 15, 1964, and together they built a life rooted in faith and devoted to their family. They raised eight children in Guatemala before answering a calling that led them to the United States in 1980, a leap of faith that forever changed their family’s future. Three years after settling in Waukegan, Illinois, they welcomed their youngest daughter, an unexpected blessing that completed their family.
Rosa’s love was steady, expressed through the way she cared for those around her. Whether through preparing a meal, tending to her home, or simply being present, she showed her devotion through action. She had a deep love for flowers and gardening, finding peace in nurturing life from the soil, a quiet reflection of the way she nurtured her family. She also found joy in sewing, a craft she perfected with patience and care, creating countless handmade pieces that were stitched with love.
Her voice, whether raised in prayer or song, was a testament to her unwavering faith. As a devoted member of her church, she believed deeply in the power of God’s grace and lived her life as a reflection of that faith.
She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Horacio Reyes (Horace Kings), and her parents. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family forever shaped by her strength and resilience. Her legacy continues through her children: Loyda Santiago, Patricia (John) Madsen, Joshua (Marlin) Reyes, Lester (Claudia) Reyes, Amalia Harter, Lesly (Timothy) Poland, Isaac (Alba) Reyes, Keren Reyes, and Becky (Luis) Valadez, as well as her many siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Rosa’s presence was a quiet but powerful force, and a constant in the lives of those who loved her. Though she is no longer with us, the lessons she taught, the sacrifices she made, and the love she gave will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 12PM at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031. The visitation will begin at 10AM.
