Ronald D. Hill, born August 29, 1937 in Escanaba, MI, raised in Rock, MI. Passed away June 16, 2011, after his brave battle against cancer. Ron is survived by his loving wife Sandy, his children; Cathy (Jim) Bauer, Jeff (Deena) Hill and Michelle (Jim Knight) Hill, four grandsons; Sean Lanners, Justin Wilczewski, Korey Hill and Jackson Knight, his surviving siblings; Evelyn Hartman (FL), Kenneth (Arlene) Hill (MI), Rosalyn Hill (Waukegan) and Leslie Hill (WI), many nephews and nieces, and preceded in death by his parents Emil and Impi (Warpula) Hill, his sisters; Esther Copeland and Ilona Copeland and brother-in-law David Hartmann. Ron proudly served in the U.S Air Force in the 706th Radar Squad, including time in Japan and Okinawa. Ron married Sandra Hill (nee Hegge) of New England, ND on Feb 17, 1962. Ron was a loyal employee for Abbott Laboratories for 37 years and also worked for Sears, Roebuck. A faithful member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church for over 40 years, he was an avid bowler for Saint Paul's bowling team. Upon his retirement, Ron and his wife Sandy volunteered for various organizations, including the C.O.O.L food pantry and the Lake County PADs program.
A proud 'Yooper', Ron loved his trips to the U.P. to hunt and spend time with his son Jeff while also visiting extended family and friends. His passion for sports also included attending his grandsons' hockey, baseball and field hockey games.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C.O.O.L food pantry, 127 W. Water St, Waukegan, IL 60085.
Visitation is from 6-9pm June 23, 2011 at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N Cemetery Rd/Tri-State Parkway, Gurnee, IL 60031, 847-855-2760. A Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on July 9, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waukegan, IL 60085, 847-662-2535.
