Rex quietly made his transition from this life to his next on June 27, 2023, at Elevate Care Waukegan nursing home. He was born to the union of Charlie and Katie Mae Moore on November 1, 1961, in Demopolis, Alabama. Upon his family moving to Waukegan, Illinois, Rex was educated in the Waukegan school system. He went to East Campus High School, where he excelled in basketball, and was one of the star players on the team. After graduation, he had a full scholarship to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College to play basketball. Rex was home visiting from college when he became ill. He was not able to return to college or truly pursue his love of basketball after that. He worked various jobs in the service industry, including working as a butcher at MB’s grocery store, and in Environmental Services at Highland Park Hospital. He was baptized as an adult at Greater Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C. L. Fairchild. He loved his family and was a giver from the heart, always trying to give away his belongings, whether you wanted them or not. Literally giving away the clothes off his back. Throughout the years, when his sister Caroline visited him, he would often ask about his son, Mitchell, and his nieces, Senisha and Erin, and the grands, he would always say “tell them that Uncle Rex asked about them, and I love them”.
Over the past 20+ years Rex lived in the Chicagoland area. Although he always desired to return to Alabama, his first love. However, because of the diagnosis of multiple myeloma, he was moved back to Waukegan in March 2023, to be closer to family and receive needed care.
He is preceded in death by his Parents: Charlie James Moore and Katie Mae Moore; Sister: Kathryn Scott; Maternal grandparents: Johnnie and Katie Miller; Paternal grandparents: Marshall Moore and Annie Lucy McCoy; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
