Raymond "Red"

Raymond Robert Mathews "Red", 84, of Zion passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Winchester House in Libertyville. He was born on November 24, 1927 in Waukegan to Richard P. and Martha M. (Pinnow) Mathews.

He is survived by his two children, Van M. and (Pam) Mathews, Sr. of Wadsworth and Dawn Heatly of Homosassa, FL; two brothers, Richard J. (Eleanor) Mathews of Pine, CO and John W. (Catherine) Mathews of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Van M. Mathews, Jr., Adrienne Mathews, Amber Mathews and Christopher McCray; one great grandson, Xavier Mathew Barrett and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister-in-law, Lester R. and Ann Mathews and one sister, Irene M. Goodrich.

Ray was in the US Navy and the US Navy Reserves. He retired from Fansteel after 43 years of service. Ray was a member of the Gurnee American Legion Post #771, the Waukegan Moose Lodge # 706, the Fansteel Retirees Club, and a lifetime member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Burial at Warren Cemetery will be private.
