Raymond E. Powers 79, of Gurnee passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
Ray was born on December 20, 1934 in Waukegan, IL and resided in Waukegan until 2004 when he moved to Gurnee. He retired from Komatsu American Corporation after 38 years of service. Ray was an avid card player, loved the outdoors at his cottage in Wisconsin and avoided the cold weather in Illinois by spending the winters in Florida. He was a member and former president of the North Chicago Lions Club and played in the North Chicago Drum and Bugle Corps.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Ann (Unrein) Powers, children Leslie Cecellia of Spring Grove, IL, Patricia (Guy) Lolmaugh of Antioch, IL, Ronald (Cynthia) Powers of Libertyville, IL and Lori (Jeffery) Stein of Lindenhurst, IL; Cherished grandfather of 13, great grandfather of 12 and also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his son Donald, parents James and Elsie, sisters Virginia Ojala and Fern Christensen and one brother James.
The family would like to thank Mario Cadaoas for the excellent care that he provided Ray.
Friends may visit with the family from 5-8pm Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Warren Funeral Home; 1475 No. Cemetery Road, Gurnee and Friday, June 13th at St. Paul the Apostle Church; Hunt Club and Gages Lake Road, Gurnee from 9-10am. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am with interment at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
