Raymond L. Claes, 80, of Des Plaines passed away on Sunday September 19, 2021. He was born May 30, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri to Louis and Marian Claes. He married Josephine J. Hundley on August 23, 1971 in Tokyo, Japan. He served in the US Army for 20 years stationed in Panama, Japan, Germany and all over the US, until his retirement as a 1st sergeant in the early 1980s.
He was a talented pianist, an avid Bears fan, enjoyed traveling and most importantly spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter: Mary “Shelley” (Rick) Toftey; grandchildren: Grant Toftey, Hazel Toftey. Daughter in-law Sarah Claes; grandchildren Savannah (Tyler) Wainright, Jesarah Claes and Julia Claes; great grandson Landon Wainright; brothers: Jim (Paulette) Claes, Vince Claes; sisters: Loretta Claes, Lou Ann (Don) Teasdale; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Josephine in 2006 and his son Jesse Claes in 2018.
Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am on Friday, September 24 at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Entombment will be in Warren Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
