Paul Manuel Dayenian answered God’s call on July 31, 2023, at the Veterans home in Oxford, Mississippi surrounded by members of his loving family.  Mr. Dayenian was born on June 28, 1928, to the late Manuel and Rose (nee Vorperian) Dayenian in Waukegan, IL. Paul served 8 years in the United States Army where he was assigned to the White Sands New Mexico project. Following his military service, he was the owner/operator mechanic of Automative Laboratories in Waukegan.  His expertise with cars earned him notoriety as the “Doctor of Cars.”  After many years Paul left his business to join Outboard Marine in their Stern Drive Engineering division where he finished out his career and retired. Paul was also a Shriner with the Masonic Temple in Waukegan, IL.  In his spare time Paul loved working on cars and dabbling with wood-working projects. His passion was working on any project in his garage. Over the years, he crafted many tables and shelves for family members, but his favorite pet project was restoring a 1939 Chevy.  It had a Corvette fuel-injected engine, air ride suspension, hand carved (by Paul) Egyptian mahogany dashboard and instrument panel along with many other custom enhancements.

For the past few years, the highlight of Paul’s day was holding hands with his wife Shirley and praying for everyone in the family.  Paul gladly accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and wanted to please him in all that he did.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Shirley with whom he shared a wonderful 28 years of marriage, one brother Steve Dayenian of Grayslake, IL, three daughters; Sharon Bertrand (Jim Merlo) of Wadsworth, IL, Diane (Joe) Wido of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Jean Dayenian of Gurnee, IL. He also leaves five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren , as well as one nephew and one niece. Paul will also be mourned by Shirley’s daughters Julie (Bruce) Polheber, Janet (Ivan) Luna and 4 additional grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who he has always accepted as his own.
