Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas, 71, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois passed away on Monday, March 8, in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

One of 13 children, Michael was born on February 26, 1950 to Robert and Eleanor (Brindise) Thomas in Chicago, Illinois.  On June 23, 1981 he married Linda Jablonski and started a journey that would last nearly 40 years as a husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Mike (Celine) Thomas, Kristen (Dave) Lucht, Jason Thomas, Jennifer Thomas, and Jaclyn (Dan) Ewing; his grandchildren, Justin (Britney) Thomas, Jadyn Thomas, Gabrielle Lucht, Thomas Ewing, and Connor Ewing; along with his numerous siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and beloved family members.

Michael (Mike) was an amazing man who had a positive impact on all those that had the pleasure of time with him.  Mike felt family was the most important thing and instilled this belief in his children and grandchildren. His love of family came through in everything he did and every decision he made.   He loved family traditions like Easter egg coloring and pumpkin carving and going on family vacations.  Although at times he could be particular and persistent, especially in projects with his children, he was always loving and encouraging in his delivery of his thoughts. He was known as a “peacemaker” and tried to make everyone feel welcome by always giving his full attention to every person he interacted  (unless the Bears were on, then only the game had his attention).

Mike was a kind, passionate, generous, fun, insightful and strong warrior of a man; yet lived a simple life with great appreciation for nature and its beauty.  He loved music and the opportunity to sing Karaoke with his friends and family.  Mike received the gift of additional life through a lung transplant in 2012.  He was extremely grateful for this gift of time with his family.   He took this second chance and lived life to its fullest.

An Angel on earth; he will be sorely missed.

A visitation will be held at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031, from 2-4 PM on Friday, March 12, 2021 followed by the memorial service at 4 PM at the funeral home.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in accordance with current State of Illinois Phase 4 regulations, all guests will be required to wear a face mask at all times.  There will be a maximum of 50 people allowed in the funeral home at a time and proper social distancing must be practiced.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Donate Life, Second Wind, or Doctors Without Borders.
