Mary-Lee Coan, 87, of Gurnee, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, February 16, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on February 3, 1934 to Lee and Violet Mason in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in September of 1967 she married Philip Lee Coan.
A long-time resident of Lake County, Mary-Lee spent many years working for the Deerfield Police Department as a crossing guard. She was also elected as Deerfield Township clerk and helped with after-school programs in the area.
Mary-Lee was an avid needlepointer, and along with her husband Philip, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, and was charitable for beloved causes with the Shriners Hospitals for Children, the ASPCA, and the Old English Sheepdog Rescue.
Mary-Lee is survived by her children, Tom (Karen) McClure, Peter (Kristi) Coan, Jeff McClure, Jennifer (Bill) King, Julie Davis, Bill (Lori) McClure, Philip “Lee” Coan Jr., and Ursula Studer; her grandchildren, Michael (Kelly) Studer, Tara (Marcos) Medel, Patrick Coan, Luke Coan, and Thomas McClure; and her great-grandchildren, Miko Studer, Adelaide Studer, and Markitos Medel; and a sister, Carol (William) Furrer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A visitation will be held at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031, from 11 AM – 12 PM on Friday, March 19, with the funeral service at noon. Inurnment will be at Warren Cemetery.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in accordance with current State of Illinois Phase 4 regulations, all guests will be required to wear a face mask at all times. There will be a maximum of 50 people allowed in the funeral home at a time and proper social distancing must be practiced.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the ASPCA.
