Mary Jo Cavanaugh

May 1, 1957 — December 8, 2022

Antioch, Illinois

Mary Jo Cavanaugh, 65, of Antioch, IL passed away December 8th, 2022 and transitioned with her
family by her side.
Mary Jo was born to the late Mary and Joseph, “Bud” O’Neill in Park Ridge, IL in 1957. She married and is survived by the love of her life, Mark Cavanaugh, for over 40 years. In their early marriage years, they resided in states according to Mark’s job including Michigan and Delaware. Together they built their home in Gurnee, IL where they raised their beloved children and resided for over 30 years, before retiring to Antioch, IL.
She first nearly missed meeting Mark in kindergarten where they both shared the same teacher, but different times of day for class. Their paths, with the help of faith, had them sharing their second grade classroom together. It wasn’t until they both worked at Thompson’s Finer Foods in Park Ridge, IL during high school that they realized their love for one another.

She is a graduate of Saint Louise de Marillac High School. Mary Jo enjoyed spending most of her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She spent many summers at the O’Neill family cottage in Crystal lake. She is preceded in death by her Father, Joseph “Bud” O’Neill, mother, Mary O’Neill, brother, Daniel O’Neill, sister, Patricia Haas, nephew Matthew O’Neill, father in-law, Jack
Cavanaugh, mother in-law, Dorothy, sister in-law, Peggy Hollis, sister in-law Wendy Cavanaugh.

Mary Jo’s unconditional love, family values, and passion for being together lives on through her survived children Michael (Elizabeth), Patrick (Katie), Brian (Katie), and Colleen (Martin) Mondero and all her grandchildren Kaylee, Patrick, Mary Rose, Jack, Kelly Anne, Gwen, Heidi, Blake, Miles, and Levi.
Her stories, laughter, and comforting reminders of her beautiful life live on through her siblings Timothy (Johanna) O’Neill, her sister-in law Phyllis O’Neill, and Kathy (Jack) Sievert. Her compassion carries to her many nieces and nephews and their children whom she adored with her
whole heart.
Through Mark, her love shines unto in-laws, Patty (Eric) Mayer, Mo (Tom) Dugan, Jeanne (Dan) Pertile, Mary (Bob) Haas, John (Yvonne) Cavanaugh, Kitsy (Neil) Riordan, Joe (Kyra) Cavanaugh, Ann (Joe) Cavanaugh, and kindness lives on through her many nieces and nephews.

She will be dearly missed.
