Mary Ellen Duplessis Barnes was born on June 28, 1951, in Chicago Illinois, to the late Orde and Bertha (nee Molizon) Duplessis.
Mary is survived by her brother Orde Duplessis, her niece Jessica Duplessis, her nephews Jonathan and Joshua Duplessis, her aunt Jo Ann Molizon and numerous cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence Barnes.
Mary spent much of her life making a loving, beautiful home for her husband, Larry, and his five daughters. She made certain those closest to her were loved and cared for. Mary had an amazing talent for beautifully decorating any home that she lived in; she could make a house a home no matter where she landed. Mary was also an amazing cook who specialized in regional dishes from New Orleans, which is where her parents were born.
Mary had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Mary loved Motown music and music by Elvis Presley. She would be the first to get up and start dancing at any party. Her fun-loving spirit and exuberance would always compel others to join her on the dance floor.
Mary made friends wherever she went. Prior to her hospitalization, she had moved to an independent living facility. Although she was only there for a short time, she quickly made so many new friends. Mary will be forever missed and celebrated by those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace with the comfort of knowing how many lives she touched during her brief time on Earth.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Mary’s memorial service will be private, but will be live-streamed online for family and friends. Please go to: https://youtu.be/ml4YaSRM1Zc for the live-stream.
