Maria Harris

Maria "Mamita" Magdalena Harris, age 85 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 26, 2022.

She was born on October 15, 1936 in Penuelas, Puerto Rico to Pascasio and Natividad Maldonado.  Maria married the love of her life, Andy Harris on November 11, 1962.

Throughout her life Maria enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her children but the love and bond she had with her grandchildren was even greater. She loved traveling, going out to eat, doing her puzzle books, and also loved camping.  She had a peculiar sense of humor and loved to shop for her family. She especially enjoyed looking for bargains.

Mamita, as her family lovingly called her, was a hard core biker with her husband Andy, with who she loved and enjoyed a spontaneous ride on the motorcycle like riding out of state for lunch then riding back home . Their favorite motorcycle trip was to Mexico. Maria and Andy were very proud to be among the founding members of LAMA (Latin American Motorcycle Association) in 1977.

She loved all of her fur babies, Randy, Max, Nakita, and Jazmin.

Maria is survived by her loving husband Andy, her sons and daughters: Ita Echevarria, Johnny Morales, Jeannie Maldonado, Elizabeth Harris, Sandy Harris, and step daughter Shirley Armstrong. Her grandchildren: Jessica, Tamica, John, Tiffany, Nate, Yersenia, Jocyln, Andrew, Anthony, Johnny, Michael, James, Joseph, Lonlamar, Carlettha, Amanda, Nina (who preceded her in death), Vonerre, Shania, and Elliot. She also leaves behind 41 great-grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren, and her fur baby Jazmin. Her sister Gloria, and her brother Junior.

She was preceded in death by her parents Pascasio and Natividad Maldonado. In addition she was preceded in death by her grandchild Nina, her brothers Jesse, Herman, and Landy.

Maria's Family would like friends to join them for her funeral service which will be at Noon, Monday, October, 3, 2022 at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd. (the entrance is where TriState Pky meets Cemetery Rd.) in Gurnee, IL 60031. The officiant is Evelyn Astacio. The visitation hours are prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. until Noon,  on Monday, October 3, 2022.

The entombment will follow the service at Warren Chapel of Peace Mausoleum of Warren Cemetery, 1495 N. Cemetery Rd. in Gurnee, IL 60031 (on the same property as the funeral home).
