Margaret Sommerlad

Margaret (Peggy) Doreen Breen Sommerlad, age 77, died peacefully with her family at her side from heart complications on September 4, 2015, in Libertyville, IL.
Mrs. Sommerlad was a great loving wife and mother. She married Robert E. Sommerlad in Englewood, NJ, in 1961, and the couple had three children together. Mrs. Sommerlad is survived by: her husband Robert Sommerlad of Gurnee, IL; daughter Sharon Sommerlad Keenan and her husband John of Schnecksville, PA; son Michael Sommerlad and his wife Melissa of Apex, NC; daughter Ellen Sommerlad Bednar and her husband Darryl of Waconia, MN. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Shannon and Tara Keenan; Madison Sommerlad; and Gabriela and Finnegan Bednar.
Mrs. Sommerlad is also survived by her sister Phyllis A. Breen of Magnolia, DE, and Paul A. Breen of Media, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Cornelius A. Breen Jr. of Warwick, RI, and sister, Mary E. Sim of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mrs. Sommerlad was born on November 25, 1937, in Teaneck, NJ, to the parents Mary and Cornelius A. Breen, Sr. She graduated from Holy Name School of Nursing in Teaneck, NJ, and obtained a B.S. from Seton Hall University. They raised their children in Cranford, NJ, until 1995, when they moved to Gurnee, IL. Mrs. Sommerlad worked as a Registered Nurse at Union Memorial Hospital in Union, NJ, and later at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, spanning a 37 year career.
Mrs. Sommerlad was deeply involved in supporting St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Gurnee, IL: President of the Women's Fellowship Committee, implementing a Traveling Madonna Program; and serving as a Communion Minister. She enjoyed volunteering and supporting various causes. Mrs. Sommerlad also served as an Election Volunteer and supported Census counts. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving person.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 9:30 AM in the Gathering Space of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 6401 Gages Lake Road Gurnee, IL 60031. A funeral mass will be offered in her memory at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peggy's life. The family would like to thank everyone who has offered prayers and extended sympathy. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sommerlad requests donations to be made to the St. Paul the Apostle Church Music Ministry.
