Larry Semmerling, 87, of Lincolnshire, IL/Fort Myers, FL passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL. He was born on December 21, 1924 in Chicago. On August 28, 1948, Larry Married Rose Marek.
Survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose Semmerling; two daughters, Kathleen Semmerling and Julie (Brad) Treger; brothers and sisters, Edwin Semmerling, Jim (Marion) Semmerling, Lilian Draz, Emelie (Jerry) Lechtenberg and Frank (Nancy) Semmerling, Jr.; grandchildren, Christine (Jason Bucar) Kloepfer, Eric Semmerling and Gabriella Lee Semmerling; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Brayden Bernolak, Tessa and Taya Bucar and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emelie (Runge) Semmerling, Sr.; sister, LaVerne Sunkel; sister-in-law, Loraine Semmerling and brothers-in-law, Don Draz and Bill Sunkel.
Larry was a WWII Army Veteran and a founder of Semmerling Fence and Supply which started 1947 in Niles, IL and later relocated to Wheeling, IL in 1969. He was an avid sports fan, loved to cook, enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of Thorngate/Ivanhoe Country Club in Illinois and Pelican Preserve Country Club & Community in Florida. Larry cherished time spent with his family, especially his dog, his best friend, Killer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
A gathering will be Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 1-3pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Memorial services will follow on Saturday at 3pm at the funeral home. Interment is private.
