Jolanta Kubala of Wadsworth, IL passed away at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL on February
10, 2020 at the age of 70.
Jolanta is survived by her 2 sons, Piotr Kubala and Andrzej (Justyna) Kubala, 1 daughter, Alisia Kubala
and 2 grandchildren, Adam and Julia. She was preceded in death by her husband Zbigniew, and parents
Józef and Janina Beisert.
Jolanta was an extraordinary person, a dedicated wife and mother, and a lifelong learner with many
interests, passions, and accomplishments. She was born in Poznań, Poland on May 14, 1949, in a
devastated post-WW2 Europe. At the age of 11, her mother passed away unexpectedly and Jolanta was
cared for by extended family. In spite of her childhood challenges, Jolanta pursued a higher education
and dream of having a family of her own. In 1972 she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Horticulture
from the University of Life Sciences in Poznań (Uniwersytet Przyrodniczy w Poznaniu). Jolanta met her
future husband, Zbigniew, at a summer sailing camp. They were married on October 19, 1974 and
started a family in Wrocław, Poland. As a young graduate and mother, Jolanta worked as a research
assistant at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (Akademia Rolnicza we
Wroclawiu). Between 1986 and 1989, Jolanta cared for the family while her husband was working as a
Visiting Scholar for the University of Missouri, Rolla. In 1989, Jolanta joined her husband and moved
with her children to the USA. They settled in the Chicagoland area. The move was not easy for Jolanta
and the family, however she continued her enthusiasm for learning and hobbies. After learning English
as a second language, Jolanta continued her education and earned certificates such as a Licensed
Practical Nurse, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomist, and Pharmacy Technician. For numerous years,
Jolanta worked and volunteered part time in various hospitals and nursing homes in the Lake County (IL)
and Kenosha (WI) areas, including Westmoreland Nursing Center, Cancer Treatment Centers of America,
Hospitality Nursing & Rehab Center, and the VA Hospital. Jolanta also studied accounting, and until
recently was the VP and administrator/bookkeeper of family business, Prosco Inc, which she co-owned
with her husband and sons.
Jolanta was active in a variety of social clubs, such as the Club of Greater Poland Region (Klub
Wielkopolan), and Club of Lower-Silesians in Chicago (Towarzystwo Dolnośląskie w Chicago) where she
served as the treasurer. She also had a passion for sailing, which she recently rediscovered with her
husband Zbigniew, and was a member of the Polish Yacht Club. Jolanta was a frequent guest at social
events such as picnics, concerts, banquets, fundraisers, etc., and maintained many friendships. Jolanta
also loved to travel, including visiting her extended family in Poland and Argentina, recently visited and
fell in love with Alaska, and had plans to visit destinations such as Asia for the first time. Jolanta had
many additional passions including music, concerts, fashion, gardening, animals and in her younger
years she enjoyed mountain hiking, skiing, and biking.
Above all, Jolanta was a kindhearted and loving person in the most genuine of ways. She loved to make
others laugh, feel good, and drew happiness from the simplest of things. Jolanta was a constant source
of optimism and encouragement for anyone who needed it. Jolanta will be dearly missed as a mother,
grandmother, friend, and the very special person she was. May her Soul rest in Eternal Peace.
