John Albert Hernandez, 60, of Gurnee passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview after a valiant six year battle with kidney cancer. He was born on February 2, 1952 in Van Wert, Ohio. On February 15, 1976 in Chicago, John married Barb Lintz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Barb Hernandez; mother, Mary Hernendez; brother, Steven Hernandez; sisters, Carmen (Rudy) Lewis, Vicky Hernandez, Delia (Stan) Falk and Mona Hernandez; brothers-in-law, Michael (Darlene G. Durling) Lintz and David Lintz; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a very special Cocker Spaniel, Cher. He was preceded in death by his father, Anselmo Hernandez in 2004 and his Quaker Parrot, Giddy in 2011.
John was the Founder and Director of Gang Outreach in Waukegan, a former Mundelein Police Chaplain and worked for 33 years at United Airlines. He was an avid runner, athlete, Chicago Bears, Notre Dame Football and Ohio State Football fan. John loved to travel and enjoyed playing video games.
Visitation is Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 4-8pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL. Funeral services are Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee.
