John L. Coburn, 82 of Newport, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Harris Medical Center in Newport.
He was born on August 13, 1937 in Newport, Arkansas to the late Chester and Mable (Cole) Coburn. In 1960 he married Effie “Pepper” Coburn. John and Pepper owned three dry cleaning businesses throughout their lives, J & R Cleaners in Waukegan, Jiffy One and Atomic Laundry & Dry Cleaning both in North Chicago, and New Look Landscaping in Lake County.
John is survived by four children, Steven Coburn, Mary "Lisa", Ricky (Leshone) Coburn and Johnny Coburn; fifteen grandchildren, Stephanie, Steven, Jr., Simone, Sydney, Daryl, Anthony (a special grandson he raised), Rachel, Eddie, Jr., Nykiedra, Ricky, Jr., Johnny, Jr., Brittany, Dexter, Corenia and Jessica; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings, Othel Coburn, Joseph (Mildred) Coburn and Sally Harris, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie in 2011, his parents (Chester and Mabel Coburn), one great grandchild, Aliana Faith, and his siblings; Authur Coburn, Ethel Williams, H.C. Coburn, Chester Coburn, T.C. Coburn, J.B. Coburn, J.C. Coburn, Mace Coburn, Elnora Coburn, Willie Coburn, and Mable Jones.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Warren Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 1475 N. Cemetery Rd. Gurnee, IL. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. Bishop Joseph Coburn, from All Nations Church of God Holiness in Christ in Waukegan will officiate the services.
Entombment will be at Warren Cemetery
