James Weldon Ross, Sr., 76, of Beach Park, went home with the Lord Monday, January 28, 2013 at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, North Chicago. He was born to life June 10, 1936 to Adolph and Bertha (Shuler) Ross. On September 26, 1958 in Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, James married the love of his life, Marilynn Nance.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 years, Marilynn Ross; children, David (Katrina) Lennon, Cynthia Ross and James, Jr. (Rose) Ross; grandchildren, Shonda, David, Jr., Phillip, Juanita, LaQuechia, James Roger III, James Ross III, Alexis, Karlton, Angelica; great-grandchildren, Micayle, Kaylee; brothers, Clarence (Princess) Ross and Ronald (Alma ) Ross; sisters, Angie (Carl) Morris, Susan Ross, Verdia (Brewer) Russell, Emma Ross, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Henry Ross, Marnett Ross, Irene Lee, AD Ross and Ersaline Amos.
James graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He was a Submariner during the Vietnam War and retired after 22 years of service in the US Navy. James began his second career and retired after 21 years of service as a Senior Detective at the Great Lakes Police Department. He was an active member of the Rufus Mitchell Lodge #107, Past Potentate of Shawall Temple #165 in Waukegan as well as holding many other offices within the Fraternal Masonic body. James was also an avid motorcycle rider.
Funeral services are Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 11am with visitation 9:30-11am at First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 1529 Elizabeth Ave., North Chicago, Pastor Eugene Roberson will officiate. Entombment will follow Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scout Troop #38 in North Chicago.
