He is survived by his loving spouse Lucille Ann DeVries, nee Morby, his adoring children James R. (Laura) DeVries, Cheryl L. (Doug) Moss, Joseph J. (Heather) DeVries, and Laurie (Ray Siminak) DeMeyer, his beloved grandchildren Ryan, Joey, Annie, Will, Elaina, and Cole, his brother Wayne (the late Patricia) DeVries, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and fishing buddies are left to cherish his memory. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anne DeVries, nee Tolenaar, his sister Arlene and her husband Bruce Coleman.
Jim always placed family first in everything he did. He was a Superfan of all his kids and grandkids. He was an accomplished handyman, an avid fisherman who enjoyed snowmobiling and just being in the outdoors. He also had fun dancing. His favorite past-time was spending time with family. He loved coaching football, softball, and baseball, especially when his kids were on the team and never missed a game when his grandkids were playing or a dance recital when his grandkids were participating. Jim never wanted to be fussed over and will be remembered for being very friendly, outgoing, and always made everyone around him comfortable.
The DeVries Family wishes to extend an invitation to everyone who knew Jim to join them for the Graveside service at Noon, Friday, June 3, 2022 at Warren Cemetery 1495 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, Illinois 60031, Garden 8. As Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, military honors will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, Community Affairs (Bldg 135), 3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, Illinois 60064.
