Jack "Big Jack" Scherer, 89, a resident of Wildwood since 1961, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center in Glenview.
Jack was a WWII Navy Veteran who served on the LST 612. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 46 in Wilmette, and an avid Bears and Cubs fan. Jack worked as a Sanitary Engineer at the Bureau of Streets and Sanitation for the City of Chicago, and retired 29 years ago.
Jack leaves behind his loving family; daughter, Kris (Randy) Petlak, son, Jack (Stephanie) Scherer; seven grandchildren, Nikole (Ken), Lindsey "Lulu", Josh (Andrea), Austin, Morgan, Emma and Loren; three great grandchildren, Kyra, Mackenzie and Cayden; sister-in-law, Chris Scherer; numerous nieces and nephews, and his good friend, Pat Carpenter. We would like to give a special thanks to his three angels that took such great care of him, Janet, Kelly and Janice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lucille (Tamborine) Scherer; wife, Joyce Scherer who passed away in 2002, and his brother, Charles K. Scherer.
Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2014 from 4pm-8pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Davis officiating from Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Green Oaks. Inurnment will be private at Warren Cemetery, Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Gurnee.
