Valavanis, Irene T. Rochester, New York Irene T. Valavanis fell asleep upon Our Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 after a long rich life of 94 years caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas and is survived by her three sons, William (Diane) in Rochester, and Theodore and Dean in Illinois, and two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher. Originally from Waukegan, she was a court stenographer. The Valavanis family moved to Rochester, New York in 1968 where she was an expert rose, tuberous begonia and bonsai grower. Mrs. Valavanis was also an active member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Waukegan and a founding member of the Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester, NY. Mrs. Valavanis moved back to Illinois for a few years and was the aide for IL State Senator Adeline J. Geo-Karis. She returned to Rochester to live with her son's family in 2003. Visitation on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with a Triasgion Service by Fr. Cosmas Halekakis at 7:00 p.m. at the Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd. Burial on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at Warren Cemetery, next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1400 North O'Plaine Road, Libertyville, IL 60048.
