Horace Nicodemus Gentle 92 of Waukegan, IL, was born March 12, 1930 to the union of Daniel and Florence Gentle in Belize. Horace dedicated his life to Christ, and in 1981, was baptized at the Shalem Seventh-day Adventist Church by the late Pastor Robert L. Smith. There, he began to learn, share, and teach the word of God to anyone that wanted to hear about a Risen Savior. Horace was immersed in the Christian community that would be his life-long support. He worked as a bus driver, and was soon promoted to Supervisor, then, Superintendent of Transportation for the RTA; he retired after twenty-three years from the Pace Bus Company in Waukegan, IL.
On August 3, 1979, Horace married Patricia Qualls in Waukegan, IL. The Gentles enjoyed fellowship, bowling, traveling , Ministry and cooking, They were also Church Planters and assisted in planting two churches for the Seventh-day Adventist denomination.
An educator at heart, Horace always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He was an Ordained Deacon, Ordained Elder, and a Commissioned Lay Pastor in the Wisconsin Conference of Seventh-day Adventist under then President, Pastor Mike Edge.
Horace passed away on October 6th at his home in Mesa, Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Patricia Gentle, his sister, Cassie of Brooklyn, NY, his brothers Llewelyn of Palm Dale, CA, Lloyd of Los Angeles, CA, Elston of Las Vegas, NV, Benjamin of Staten Island, NY, Hallett of Chicago, IL, his sons Bryant (Judith) Gentle of Country Club Hills, IL, Lennox of Atlanta, GA, Horace Jr. of Belize, Derrick of Belize, Sherrie Taylor of Danville, IL, Harold Taylor of Waukegan, IL, and Pastor Lamont Taylor (Marina) of Gurnee, IL. Thirty-three grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and a host of loving and supporting friends.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, friends, loved ones, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until Noon on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Waukegan Shalem Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1105 Pine Street in Waukegan, Illinois.
The funeral service will be at Noon on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Shalem. The entombment will immediately follow at the Warren Mausoleum and Cemetery, 1495 N. Cemetery Rd. in Gurnee, Illinois 60031.
