Gregory L. Yanik, 69 of Gurnee passed away on Monday, December 03, 2018 at his home.
Gregory was born on April 17, 1949 in Owosso, Michigan to Frank and Elizabeth Yanik. He attended schools in Owosso and went to Michigan State University receiving a degree in Package Engineering. That degree brought Greg to the Lake County area to work for Abbott Laboratories which he retired from with 26 years of service. It was there that he met and married Debra Zupec and together they settled in the Gurnee area and raised their son Mathew. Greg enjoyed collecting Lionel and American Flyer trains, playing the guitar with his son Matt and tinkering with his muscle car, a 1972 Chevy Nova, chatting with and helping out his neighbors, attending the Annual Zupec Picnic and of course, above all, watching his beloved Michigan State Spartans along with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Wadsworth.
Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years Debra and one son Mathew (Kristina O’Halloran), his brothers, Frank (Jean) Yanik, Chris (Lori) Yanik and Tim Yanik and Greg’s nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may visit with the family from 9-10 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Church, 15000 Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. with Fr. James E. Merold officiating. Interment will be private.
Donations may be made in Greg’s name to either St. Patrick Church or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are under the care of Warren Funeral Home; 1475 North Cemetery rd., Gurnee. IL.
