Gordon Kemp

Gordon A. Kemp, 99, of Round Lake, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2021. Gordon was born in Beloit, Wisconsin March 26, 1922, to Polish immigrant parents, Felix Kemp and Charlotte (nee Markowski) Kemp.

Gordon discovered the musical instruments clarinet and saxophone during his early school days, and they played an important part of his life until his early 90's. He played in a number of bands: School Dance Band, Coast Guard Band, Community Bands, and adult Dance Bands.

He served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After the war he returned to his studies at the University of Wisconsin receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The School of Commerce.

His working years were in the Insurance Industry working with Special Risk Coverages dealing with Lloyd's of London. The last ten years of his working years were with the Aon Corporation in Chicago.

Gordon made a lot of good memories for his family by always planning fun vacation trips during the growing up years of his daughters and continued during his working years and on into his retirement. Gordon and Jan saw much of this country by car, air, and rail, as well as cruising and trips abroad. From 1994-2001, Gordon and Jan wintered at Panama City Beach, Florida.

During his retirement years he was able to play more golf and read which he had always enjoyed in his younger years. His music also kept him busy.

In his own written word, he wrote, "Now at age 99 I am ready to maybe reach age 100 and call it a career that I am completely satisfied on a job well done?"

Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Janet (nee Brown) Kemp; daughter Julie (Arthur) Ward of San Diego; grandson Benjamin and granddaughter Brittany; and daughter Sue of Lake-In-the-Hills, Illinois.

On September 2nd, Gordon and Janet would have celebrated 61 years of marriage.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Beloit, Wisconsin.
