Gladys Piat

Gladys Piat, nee Riedel, beloved wife of the late Walter Piat passed away peacefully on June 2, 2018 at Rolling Hills Place in Zion, IL after living more than 96 wonderful years.

Born in Granton, Wisconsin to Anna and Herman Riedel, she moved to Illinois to join her older sisters where she received a secretarial certificate from Lake Forest College and a nursing certificate from St. Therese Hospital before she started her early career as an Executive Secretary at Abbott Laboratories.

She was a loving mother to her 3 sons, Vincent, David and Michael.

Gladys is survived by her son Vince (Cheri), son Michael and daughter in law Jane, sisters Dolores and Ione, grandchildren Michelle (Mark) Donnelly, Caitlin (Jeff) Thompson and Benjamin Piat, Daniel and Jonathon Piat, Zach Kalk, and great grandchildren Finn and Beckett Donnelly, Theodore Chandler and Harrison Thompson. She also loved Ben's girlfriend Caitlin Talbot and her daughter Jade Lunsford. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her son David, her sisters Gertrude, Frances, Lovella, Adelma, Florence and brothers Harold and Herman.

After her children were grown she worked for several Waukegan physicians and area firms as a bookkeeper before her retirement when she enjoyed volunteering with her husband Walter at Vista Hospital, beginning in 1980 and continuing until her death. She most recently knitted caps for newborn babies born at Vista.

Memorial visitation is planned Wednesday, June 6th at the Warren Cemetery, 1475 Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL from 6 pm to 8 pm and again from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, June 7th before her 11 am Memorial Service scheduled at Trinity United Church, 658 Grand Avenue, Waukegan, IL where she was a faithful member for over 65 years serving in many capacities ranging from Sunday School teacher to a happy Circle participant.
