George Washington Spires Jr.
Died April 15, 2012 at home in Waukegan
Born February 25, 1922 in Waukegan Il. to George and Thelma (Alyea) Spires
US Army veteran of World War II having served as the Company Commander of Company M, 275th Infantry Regiment, 70th Infantry Division. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge with 3 battle stars for serving in the Ardennes-Alsace (Battle of the Bulge), Central Europe, and Rhineland Campaigns. He was also awarded the Bronze Star and French Croix de Guerre.
He returned home to Waukegan from the war and worked at Pavlik Auto Parts in Kenilworth, IL. until he moved on to work at Johnson Motors in Waukegan until his retirement in 1984.
George was a member of the American Legion, the National order of Battlefield Commissions, the Free Masons, and was a Shriner with the Tabala Motor Patrol.
George was preceded in death in 2007 by his wife of 52 years, Harda Spires (Hansen),
and brothers Harry and James Spires
He is survived by daughter Nancy (Albert) Yang of Libertyville, son Larry (Karen) Spires of Lake Villa. and grandchildren Joanna (Chip) Schneider of Eau Claire, Wi. Christopher Yang of London England, Jonathan Spires of Lake Villa and Erik Spires of EauClaire,Wi.
Funeral services and inurnment will be private.
