George Abington

George J. Abington, 90 of North Chicago, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, IL.

He was born on July 27, 1928 in Wentzville, Missouri to the late Anthony and Irene (Cosby) Abington.  He returned to Illinois in 2016 to spend time with his daughters.

George was a loving father who cared deeply for his entire family.  He liked telling stories of old and spending time enjoying his grandchildren.  George treasured every moment with his family as he shared his knowledge while you listened with interest.  And, he was so grateful for the smallest things that you did for him.  Even at 90, he was highly alert and very competent.  He was the kind of man that would want to say thanks (again) to all those who shared in taking care of him in his final days.  George captured the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.  He will long be remembered for the life he lived.

George is survived by his daughters: Patricia Craig, Vanessa Abington, Angela Abington, a special nephew Eric (Dorene) Cash, his grandchildren: Gilbert Abington, Damond (Venessa) Craig, Byron Craig, Lemeenah (Timothy) Jackson, and Jarad Abington, his great grandchildren: Shakeeleah, Nakyeta, Darrien, Kiarra, Jerimiah, Tiyana, Tanasiah, Byron Jr., De’Andre, Brianna, Elijah, and Je’nee, great great grandchildren: Armani and Demonshea Jr., several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Frances Abington, Celeste Cash, Sarah Long, Emma Hargravey, Margaret Dawson and Anthony Abington Jr.

Services will be held in St. Louis, Missouri at a later date.
