Ernesto “Ernie” M. Sio, also known as “Tono” and “Patnubay”, 80, of Beach Park, IL passed away peacefully early on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Advocate Condell Medical Center surrounded by his family’s love.
Ernesto was born on February 13, 1944, in Pagbilao, Philippines to the late Emilio and Enrica (Merto) Sio. He graduated from University of the East (Manila, Philippines) in 1964 with a major in accounting. He met and married Ma. Aurora Doromal in 1969 after a brief romance. It was love at first sight. They immigrated to the United States in 1972 with their two-year old son and $200 in their pockets. They made their American Dream come true through love, hard work, grit, perseverance, adaptability, and their beloved Fil-Am community.
Ernesto was quiet, gentle, generous, modest, and wise. He had the ability to make people feel welcome, seen, and heard. He was a man of few words; he always listened and made the words he said count; he offered sage and thoughtful insights. He loved to laugh and eat good food. But his favorite was to laugh and eat with people he loved, especially his family. After immigrating, he worked at Dexter Midland and then at Nosco. At Nosco, he filled multiple roles and retired as the Controller after almost 30 years. After retirement, he found his passion for golf and Texas Hold ‘Em.
He was a beloved and devoted husband, parent, grandparent, brother, uncle, and friend. He was married to Aurora for 50 years, until her death in 2020. He is survived by his children; Enrico (Glynnis), Terry (Jaci), and Tina (Molly); his grandchildren; Andrew, Allyson, Alaina, Isabella, Noah, Corazon, and Micah; his siblings; Reynaldo, Lito (Lupe), Lydia (Tuting), and Pina; sister-in-law MaLou; brother-in-law Francis (Rose Marie); numerous nieces and nephews (blood and honorary), and countless friends whose hearts he touched.
Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Aurora, his siblings Fernando and Eleanor, his sister-in-laws Edith and Fe, and his brother-in-laws, Alex and Freddie.

His family would like to thank the medical practitioners and staff at both Advocate Health (particularly Advocate Hospice and Tower 4) and Northwestern Urology. Their kindness and efforts are much appreciated.
Ernest Hemingway said, “Every man has two deaths, when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name. In some ways men can be immortal.” Share stories of your loved ones and allow them to be immortal.
In lieu of flowers, please love and support your family. One of Ernesto’s core beliefs was that charity starts at home.
