Emil Louis Lainio, known as Bud to friends, 85, of Waukegan, IL, went to be with the Lord on July 24th at Vista East Hospital in Waukegan.
He leaves his wife of almost 58 years, Glenna Dean Thomas Lainio, his daughter and son-in-law, Jeri and Kenneth Sisson, of Zion, IL; his son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Sharon Lainio, of St. Charles, IL; his grandchildren, Andrew Sisson, Gretchen (Sisson) Phillips, Nathaniel Sisson, Haley Sisson, Matthew Sisson, Leslie Lainio and Sidney Lainio; and two great-grandchildren.
The son of Emil Joil and Ida Pauline (Korthals) Lainio, Bud was born on October 26th, 1925 at home across the street from Victory Hospital in Waukegan. He received his Bachelors from Carthage College and his Masters from Northern Illinois University. In 1944 he enlisted in the Navy and was trained as a Naval Aviation Radioman. He received a Victory Medal and an American Area Campaign Medal and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married his southern belle, Glenna, on October 24, 1953 in Norman, Oklahoma. Never afraid of work, he had a number of occupations and built two of the homes where he raised his family. He loved children, teaching 6th grade for 25 years at West School and working unpaid with the after school sports program.
Everyone who met Bud experienced his unpredictable sense of humor. He loved his family and invested a lot of time building strong relationships . His love for Jesus Christ was expressed through meeting the needs of others, annd his home was always open to anyone in need of a second chance. He enjoyed working outside, golf, basketball, baseball, fishing and woodcutting.
Funeral services are Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 2:00pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd, Gurnee with visitation from 12:30pm-2:00pm before services at the funeral home. Burial at Warren Cemetery, Gurnee.
