Emil R. Dampf, 85, of Mundelein passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at The Wealshire in Lincolnshire. He was born on April 12, 1924 in Chicago to Rudolph and Agnes (Halper) Dampf. On June 19, 1943 while on leave from the Navy, Emil married June G. Eick. He is survived by his loving daughter, Susan (Greg) Denny of Mundelein; two granddaughters, Sarah Denny and Alice Denny both of Mundelein; sister, Freida Janusz of Northlake, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, June G. Dampf on October 28, 2005, his parents and one sister, Hermine Knable. Emil was a United States Navy veteran who served his country during WWII as a diver and welder in locations including Pearl Harbor and Saipan. He was a proud 51 year member of the Pipe Fitter's Union Local #597. Emil worked on many notable landmarks in Chicago including the University of Illinois, the John Hancock building, the Moody Bible Institute, and countless smaller projects. Emil retired to a mountain top 40-acre farm in Arkansas in 1981 where he designed and built numerous structures, musical instruments, ponds, fruit cellars, pieces of furniture, and toys. Many of these projects were built with wood from trees he cut down and milled himself. In lieu of flowers, please come and join family and friends in a celebration and remembrance of his spirit on Sunday, November 29th, 2009 between 1-4 pm at the Royal Cantonese Restaurant on the corner of Rt. 45 and Rt. 83 in Mundelein.
