Dorothy Mae O'Neal, 75, of Waukegan went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. She was born on August 2, 1935 in Osceola, Arkansas to James, Sr. and Rosie Lee (Madison) Owens.
She leaves to cherish her memory two loving children, Velvalyn (Forrest) O'Neal-Jackson and Marvin (Teresa) O'Neal; mother, Rosie Lee Owens; one grandson, Shawn O'Neal; one brother, Earl (Denise) Owens; three sisters, Earl Lene Owens, Ardie Jean (David) Williams and Vehester Galbreath; a special great-niece and great-nephew Trenece Owens and Tyrese Terry; a host of many other nieces and nephews and special friend, Charles Barker. She was preceded in death by her father, James Owens, Sr.; one brother, James Owens, Jr. and one sister, Norma Jean Owens.
Dorothy was baptized at Bethlehem Church in Osceola, Arkansas at an early age. She worked and retired after 42 years of nursing at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in North Chicago and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Waukegan for many years where she was on the Nurse's Board until she passed away. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, was a very dependable and loving person and was always willing to help others.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee Street, Waukegan, IL. The Pastor Walstone E. Francis will officiate funeral services at the church. Interment will be at Warren Cemetery, Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Gurnee, IL.
