Donald Shannon Sr

Donald RichardShannon, Sr. of Gurnee, Illinois, born in Highwood, Illinois on September 11th, 1926 to Richard "Ted" and Mildred Shannon, passed away on Saturday, July 5th at home surrounded by his loving children.
Don proudly served his Country in the United States Navy during WWII. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served abroad an aircraft carrier in the Pacific as a Chief Petty Officer.
Don worked at Woolf's Distributing Company in Libertyville, Illinois for many years and later at Libertyville High School. He also worked part time at his in-laws Hardward Store, Maidens Hardware in Libertyville.
Don loved sports and was a life-long Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed many years in retirement and lived for some time in Ft. Myers, Florida. He is remembered as a dedicated family man and for many years of friendship and happiness with his extended family.
Don leaves to cherish his memory, 4 children, Donna (Guy) Flaschner, Debby (Richard) Welton, Don Shannon Jr (Lisa) and Richard Shannon. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Don was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Shriver.
Funeral services will he held on Saturday, July 12th at 11:30 am WARREN FUNERAL HOME and burial will be at the North Shore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be before the service from 9:00 am until 11:30 am.
