David A. Sams, 65, of Gurnee, passed away January 8, 2016 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. He was born August 30, 1950 in Waukegan. He married the love of his life, Renee Rucks, on July 19, 1986 in Waukegan. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Renee Sams; his beloved Yorkie, Paco; brothers, Larry (Carol) Sams, Donald (Lauren) Sams; brothers-in-law, James (Cindy) Rucks, Thomas (Mary Ellen) Rucks, Richard Rucks, Peter (Cindy) Rucks, Ivan Tepper; sisters-in-law, Mary (Mike) Gray, Rebecca (Frank) Belmont, Janet Rucks, Elaine Sams; three special nieces, Deatra Sams, Denise Sams, Laura Coffey, and many more nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Irene (Engstrom) Sams; sisters, Wendy Tepper, Cathy Sorenson; brother, Kenneth Sams; brothers-in-law, William G. Rucks and Timothy W. Rucks. Dave was a US Air Force Veteran and a WWII collector. He worked as a Probation Officer in Lake County for 10 years, then worked and retired after 14 years at Warren Township High School as a Security Officer, where he was known as "The Beef." Dave loved traveling to Las Vegas to gamble, and became an avid sports fan because of Renee. Visitation is Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and/or Juvenile Diabetes.
