Bettye Burton, 77, formerly of Zion, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, in Northbrook, IL, with her family at her side. She was born on September 6, 1944, in Talladega, Alabama to Buddy Curry and Josephine Garrett, and was later adopted by Albert "Coot" Lindsey. On February 16, 1963, she married John Wesley Burton, and they spent the next 54 years together raising and loving their family. John preceded Bettye in death in January of 2018.
Bettye was an amazing mother, cousin, and niece. She was a kind, sweet, extraordinary woman who loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading every day, many times finishing an entire book in a day, while still taking time to revel in the glory of her bible twice daily. She made an outstanding mac & cheese casserole, and the recipe was kept secret for many years.
Bettye is survived by her children, Tracey Burton-Anderson (Bernard Coleman), Joseph Burton (Linda), and Keefer Burton (Tina); her grandchildren, Sheila, Wesley, Morgan, Mika, Lindsey, Ginelle, and George; great-grandchild, Nyla; her aunt Thelma, and her uncle Joe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Albert Lindsey; stepdaughter, Carolyn Burton Fields; and son, Johnie Burton II.
Per the family’s wishes, the services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Bettye’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause near and dear to her heart.
Warren Funeral Home is assisting the family.
