Barbara Ann Berney

Berney, Barbara, 83 of McDonough, GA left our world to be with the Lord on October 23, 2022.  She was born November 6, 1938, in Kansas City, Mo to George and Esther Hanks (Peterson).

Barbara graduated from Waukegan Township High School Class of 1956 and attended Bowling Green State University.  Following school, she returned to Waukegan to marry her high school sweetheart and became a young mom of three children.  She was a stay-at-home mom for her children’s early years and eventually pursued a career in education, working with developmentally disabled students and later pre-school children.

Ultimately, she met the love of her life, Richard Berney.  They went on to marry on July 1st, 1978 and make incredible memories with their loved ones in their hometown of Gurnee. Together, they hosted and cherished many family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, parades and many trips to Six Flags Great America.

Kids were the light of Barbara’s life.  She loved her kids, grandkids and the children she worked with very much and they loved her equally as much!  She had a flare for art and if you were lucky to be around for one of Miss Barb’s art projects, you were blessed.

Her friends and family would describe her as the sweetest and most kind person they knew.  Anyone could recognize the goodness she carried in her heart by the sparkle in her eyes.

Barbara will be deeply missed by those surviving her including her son, Wesley Trombino, daughters, Linda (Pat) Busscher and Sandy Schwab; grandchildren, Megan (Brian) Pruitt, Michael (Kasia) Trombino, Patrick (Kameron) Busscher, Matthew Busscher, Justin Schwab and Jeremy Schwab; great grandchildren, Faye Pruitt, Hudson Pruitt and Evyn Busscher.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Berney and her parents, George and Esther Hanks.

Services and Interment will be private.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Warren Funeral Home 1475 N. Cemetery Road in Gurnee (Located on the northside of the intersection of Tri-State Parkway and Cemetery Road).
