Anton (Tony) Stefanic, 87, of Gurnee, passed away May 2, 2015 at home. He was born July 21, 1927 in North Chicago to Nicholas and Amanda (Pavelic) Stefanich. Tony was a WWII US Navy Veteran. He worked at Anchor Hocking, National Gypsum, and retired from the Waukegan Public School district. Tony was an avid golfer and a member of the American Legion Post 771 of Gurnee and the Moose Lodge of Zion. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Stefanic (Waldorf); children, Jim Stefanic, Diane (Tom) Adamczyk, Don (Linda) Stefanic, Cheryl (Dr. Greg) Edwards, Cheryl Bowles and Larry (Colleen) Bowles; grandchildren, Dean Stefanic, Todd Stefanic, Lynn (Gaudencio) Xochitlatoa, Tracy (Bart) Hill, Angela (Chris) Prochniewski, Jennifer (Eric) Beck, Tierney Edwards, Stefanie Edwards, Geoffrey (Ann) Edwards, Bret (Arda) Bowles, Melanie Bowles and Nathan (Jennifer) Bowles; sister-in-law, Barbara (Robert) Summers, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A special thanks to caregivers Lungile Plaatjie and Nana Twum. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 9, 2015 (Visitation 2:30 pm/Service 3:30 pm) at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 18630 W. Old Gages Lake Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 with a memorial dinner to follow at Bonnie Brook Golf Course in Waukegan, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
