Alfred (Al) Scott of Grayslake, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27th 2023 at home.

Al was born in Waukegan, IL on December 24th 1933 to Carter and Nora (Reideler) Scott. Al was married to his wife Marlene and spent over 31 years together until Marlene’s passing just 14 days before him.

One of Al’s biggest joys in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren and extended family. A highlight was when he and Marlene took all 23 of their family members on two Disney cruises. Al enjoyed taking many fishing trips to Canada and Lake Cumberland in Kentucky with his family. Over the years and even until the last few months, Al and Marlene had great pleasure in hosting weekly card nights. Enjoying a cocktail and spending time with friends around the table was one of Al’s favorite things to do.

After graduating from Waukegan High School, and attending Bradley University and Lake Forest College, Al joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Key West Florida for a period of time.

After 30 years of service, Al retired from Johnson Outboards in Waukegan in 1983 as a Capital Equipment Mechanical Engineer.

Al had a love of food and cooking and after retiring from OMC, founded the Backyard Steakpit in 1985. The restaurant has remained family owned and a community staple for over 38 years.

Al’s battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage and tenacity in facing life’s challenges with a smile.

Al is survived by his children Brian (Robin) Scott, Dawn (Mike) Shannon, and Keith (Dan Sivia) Scott; his stepchildren Debbie (Carl) Gardner and Sue (Jesse) Rodriguez as well as fifteen grandchildren and two great – grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister-in-law Lois Scott and special friends Jay and Robin Jozwiak.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Marlene, his parents Carter and Nora Scott, his brother Richard Scott and his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Dave Carlson.
