Abner "Merl" Carberry, 86, of Lake Villa passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born on August 1, 1923 in Miltonville, Iowa to Benjamin and Edna Lucy (Freemann) Carberry. He married Marilyn G. Sahs on November 22, 1949 in Chicago. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn G. Carberry; four children, Merl (Barbara) Carberry, Linda Carberry Kiszonas, Richard Carberry and Sharon (Ed) Ahrens; grandchildren, Heather, Angela (Michael), Scott, Katie, William, Elaine, Therese, Natalie and Elizabeth (Tim); twelve great grandchildren; sister, Edith Coy; brothers, Wayne Carberry, Paul Carberry and Howard (Sharon) Carberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Art, Cecil, Esther, Lois, Marion and Ray. Merl served in the Navy during WWII. He belonged to the Plasters Union Local 5 and also a member of the Park Ridge VFW. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 5-8 pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 9:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery, Chicago. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or the Children's Miracle Network. Arrangements entrusted to WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee.
